Lee "Scratch" Perry

Kingston, Jamaica’s Lee “Scratch” Perry is a man who’s career almost defies belief. By the time he hits the Whelan’s stage this March, he will have just celebrated his 82nd birthday, and he’ll have been working in music – as an artist, producer, and explorer – for 60 years.

Originally a popular singer in his native Jamaica, Perry subsequently worked as a producer with his own band, The Upsetters, as well as with Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Congos, The Clash, and countless others since the late 1960s. He is also widely credit for pioneering the techniques used to make dub music.

In the last 15 years Perry has enjoyed a late-career renaissance which has seen him tour relentlessly despite his advancing years. They broke the mould with this one.
